$75 Billion goes to Green projects

U Mass economist Robert Pollin suggests that three times as many jobs are created when funding is spent on green energy as opposed to traditional fossil fuel technology. The Solar Energy Industries Association says 119,000 jobs will be created in the solar industry alone as a result of President Obama's planned $75m stimulus package aimed at green technology. Do these numbers seem right to you? I am concerned that we are creating an industry for which there will be little ongoing demand (due to… Continue

IT companies soften marketing of green technologies

How can you convince someone that an electronic machine is good for the environment? Over the last two years every IT vendor has made claims of efficiency and touted green initiatives that will end global warming. The undeniable fact is that power consumption will increase as we build more datacenters and bring millions more online every day. So how do you market efficiency without looking like you are jumping on the bandwagon?

Though many IT comanies are no longer filling their home pages with… Continue

Is Buying a Hybrid Worse for Environment than Keeping Your Old Car?

I have heard personal finance experts (and my mother) tell me many times that buying a new car is often a bad financial decision. Now here's some evidence to show that it may also be a bad ecological decision. Before you rush out and buy a Prius, you may want to check the market for an old Geo Metro instead, says EcoGeek.org:

-Given that producing a car is an extremely energy and resource intensive endeavor, is it better for the environment to keep driving an old car, or to buy a new, more effi… Continue

It looks as though we had a fake member spamming the group. I have banned the member which should solve the problem. Thanks again to members who notified me that they noticed something suspicious.

Hey Fritz ~ I thought I would jump on board the thanks wagon and send one of my own. I spent a bit of time on the site here and found some very encouraging information. I would say that your latest article is pretty spot on. There are a lot of companies out there that are trying to make the move to help the Green Tech Industry flourish - I know for myself, the infromation provided by APC (yep the big battery guys and gals) have been pretty invaluable to me in re- and right-sizing power and cooling for many firms out in our neck of the woods. Would love to share more about this underutilized area of info!!
